Cricut How To : Create A Solid Backing Piece
This article will show you how to create a solid backing piece that you need for your project. Watch a 1-minute video or read a text tutorial with images.

A solid backing layer is usually not necessary when you are making a t-shirt or decal vinyl. However, if you are making paper crafts such as a handmade card, cake topper, or pop-up model, you may need a solid backing piece so you can glue other pieces on. We included a solid layer in all of our newer designs for your convenience. However, if you came across one that doesn't have it, you can always make one easily with these short steps.

HOW TO CREATE A SOLID BACKING LAYER IN CRICUT DESIGN SPACE

1. Upload the design to the Design Space canvas. If you need to adjust the size, we recommend doing that first. Then click the design to select, and click the "Duplicate" button.

2. Once you have a duplicate piece, click on it and click the "Weld" button.

3. And you should get a solid piece like this.

4. That's it! Now you have separate pieces of the design and also a solid backing piece.
